The Afghanistan Relief Organization (ARO) is committed to neutral, non-political and non-religious humanitarian efforts throughout all Afghanistan. ARO is comprised of Afghan and American volunteers of different ethnicities, political beliefs, religious beliefs and origins. We recognize the situation—past and present—in Afghanistan is rooted in political, ethnic and religious conflicts. ARO volunteers have worked with many individuals and organizations to deliver relief aid—prior to and after the fall of the Taliban—in order to fulfill the organization’s humanitarian mission.

For example, unsafe conditions under the Taliban necessitated delivery of relief goods through the northern regions of Afghanistan. ARO, along with other humanitarian organizations, established working relationships with “Northern Alliance” or “United Front” contacts for safe passage and assistance. Working relationships of this nature—particularly under a repressive regime or during war conditions—do not establish political affiliation or support, rather a necessary means of bringing critical aid to people who had no other assistance.

Today, ARO continues to establish working relationships with many different groups, organizations and individuals with one common purpose: to provide assistance to Afghans in need. We are proud to have worked with the U.S. military on the airlift of school supplies, and we remain open to working with other reputable groups, individuals, and organizations to deliver aid throughout Afghanistan.

We make no claims regarding any personal or organizational heroics or incidents, leaving that to others. We simply stand by our humanitarian position: all people are human beings worthy of food, clean water, clean and safe living conditions, medical help, clothing, and an opportunity for education.
